Khaliya Top

Khaliya top, perched at an altitude of 3500 m above sea level, is the highest point of Munsiyari, Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. The town of Munsiyari serves as the base for this trek. The trek to Khaliya top is 7-8 km in length and considered to be relatively easy. The topmost point provides clean and magnificent views of the valley and some snow covered Himalayan peaks including Panchachuli, Rajrambha, Hardeol, Nanda Kot, and Nanda Devi.

What Khaliya Top Trek has to Offer:

As the trek to Khalia top initiates, the dense Oak forests welcome you with some Rhododendron(locally known as Buraans) trees. Rhododendron is a red or pink flower that blossoms in the months of March and April. As the trek goes on, the mesmerizing views of the Himalayan peaks and valleys keep on amaze you. If you get lucky, you might spot some mountain antelopes and pheasants on the way to Khalia top.

After a while, the Rajrambha Peak and Panchachuli peaks give you warm welcome. This point of the trek has a lush green sheet of thick grass. This is where one may camp and stay for the night. About a kilometer ahead here begins the meadow(Bugyal) of Khaliya covered with a thick coat of grass. After trekking one hour towards the peak of Khaliya top, there are camping grounds. This point provides neat and clean views of Nanda Devi peak, Sunderdhunga, and Milam Valley.

Camping at Khaliya Top:

Camping under the light of the stars is an affordable and best option to enjoy the journey. However, there are many hotels and lodges to stay in Munsiyari. Some hotels have inside restaurants for the convenience of the visitors, which serve North Indian and Kumaoni food.

How to Reach Khaliya Top, Munsiyari:

The trek to Khaliya top starts from Munsiyari.

By Road

State-owned buses and private buses run from Delhi, Dehradun, Almora, Pithoragarh, and Haldwani to Munsiyari. But one has to check the timings of buses. Haldwani is 285 km away from Munsiyari via Almora-Bageshwar-Munsyari Road.

By Train

Kathgodam (275 km) and Tanakpur (286 km) are the two options to reach Munsiyari via train. Then one has to get on the bus or book a taxi to reach Munsiyari. Since the journey to Munsiyari is very long, it would be good to break your journey into several stops.

By Air

Pantnagar airport is the nearest airport to Munsiyari at a distance of 249 km. One can take buses and taxis from there to Haldwani. Then there are buses and taxis available to Munsiyari. Naini Saini Airport in Pithoragarh is the other option but the flights are not regular.
