Pauri coordinates at Latitude-30.1, Longitude-78.7. The district shares its border with Bijnor district to the South, Almora district to the East, Chamoli district to the East and Tehri Garhwal district to the west. The district also shares its border with Uttar Pradesh state to the south. The region occupies an area of 5,399 sq. km and boats an altitude of 372 metres to 345 metres, belonging to the Hindi Belt India.

History of Pauri Garhwal

In the year 1960, Garhwal was divided into Pauri Garhwal and Chamoli districts. Later in 1997, an additional area was carved out of this district and was merged with parts of Chamoli and Tehri Garhwal districts to form Rudraprayag district. The district is administratively divided into 9 tehsils and 15 developmental blocks.

Industrial and Economy sector of Pauri

Apart from agriculture, the district is a base for industrial sector that is slowly growing here. Since the district has a rigid topography, there is lack of infrastructure as no major industries can be set up here. Employment started flowing at Pauri after several small and large scale industrial units were established around Kotdwara by the State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand (SIDCUL).

The army and para-military are some of the major sources of employment for young people. Some of the renowned companies that work in the region are steelmaker Shree Sidhbali Industries, information technology company Wipro Ltd, pharmaceutical company Simpex Pharma and Ayurvedic medicine supplier Sri Ayurveda. Organic farming is also flourishing in the district. Banjos Enterprises has come up with the first integrated mushroom growing plant in Pauri Garhwal located at Sigaddi, having an installed capacity of 700 MT per annum.
