Chamba is a pristine town and hill station tucked in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. It is situated at a junction of roads connecting Mussoorie and Rishikesh with the Tehri Dam reservoir and New Tehri. It is a beautiful hill station tucked in Tehri Garhwal.

Chamba perched at an altitude of 1,600 meters is a hill town that offers peace and tranquility from the maddening city life. The proximity to Delhi makes Chamba a perfect weekend destination to explore and relieve the stress from mind. The hill station is enveloped by thick woodlands of pine and deodar trees. Unlike Mussoorie, it is scarcely populated and serene which attracts wanderers who are on their quest for peace.

Since the place is untouched by modernization, you’ll experience quietude here. Have a stroll around the marketplace and shop a few handicraft items from there. Walk further and you’ll be greeted by the awe-inspiring Himalayan peaks of Thalay Sagar and Jogni. On a clear morning, one can see the ravishing Langtang range. Best Time to Visit:

The weather in Chamba remains pleasant throughout the year. However, the best time to visit this place would be from March-June and September-December. Many travelers visit Chamba between April-November as some of the best views can be savored during these months. 

History:

Chamba and most parts of Uttarakhand have played a significant role in producing War heroes who sacrificed their lives during World War I.  The tiny Manjud was one of the famous villages of South Asia that birthed most soldiers and volunteers. About 480 among them joined different army regiments and served in various theatres of war between 1914-1915.

Notably, the famous Victoria Cross recipient, Rifleman Gabbar Singh Negi also belonged to that area. To pay a tribute to this braveheart, the Gabbar Singh Negi Fair is held each year in this town on April 21stst. The festival is attended by a lot of people who come from faraway places.

How to reach:

The toy town of Chamba is located in Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand. The hill station is about 60 km from Mussoorie and can be reached within two hours from Rishikesh via Narendra Nagar. A short 7-8 hours drive from Delhi via Haridwar, Rishikesh and Narendra Nagar (290 km) will make you reach here.

By Road

Chamba is well connected by swift motorable roads with the major cities of Uttarakhand. One can easily catch a bus from ISBT Kashmere Gate, Delhi to the nearest cities like Dehradun, Mussoorie, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar, Tehri, Uttarkashi etc. Local transport to Chamba is available from these places.
