Kanda

Kanda is a beautiful and historic town and tehsil in Bageshwar district in the state Uttarakhand of India. It is 26 kms from Bageshwar. The town includes over 30 villages. Located at a height of 1500-1900 m above sea level, It is surrounded by terraced fields and mountains.

History of Kanda:

From the 7th to the 13th century the town was under the Katyuri Kings. In 13th century after the disintegration of the Katyuris, the town came under the rule of Mankoti kings of Gangoli. During the 16th century, the Chand king Balo Kalyan Chand, invaded the area of Mankot and annexed Kanda and included it to his Kumaon Kingdom.

R.O.S.E (Rural Organization for Social Elevation):

ROSE is a small self-help group founded in Kanda, which encourages rural tourism by providing a total Kumaoni experience to the tourists. It was founded by the local resident Jeevan Lal Verma.

The organaization provides accommodation at the traditional guest houses to the visitors. They serve local Kumaoni cuisine to the tourists.

How to Reach Kanda:

The town is only 26 kms away from the headquarters of Bageshwar district. Once you reach Bageshwar, there are counless taxis and local buses, which will take you to this town.

Kathgodam railway station is the nearest railhead. It is 171 kms from Bageshwar.
