Patanjali Yogpeeth is one of the most popular and fastest growing medical and research institutes in Yoga and Ayurveda. The institute was founded by Baba Ram Dev and Acharya Balkrishna in 2006. It is located at Kankhal on the Haridwar-Delhi highway, 15 kms away from Roorkee and 20 kms from Haridwar on NH 58.

Meaning of The Name:

The name of the institute is after Maharishi Patanjali. He is known for his work on Yoga, entitled “Patanjali Yoga Sutra”. Apart from this, he was also a scientist and a remarkable Ayurvedic doctor. Many researches are being performed on his work even till this date.

Objective:

The main focus of Patanjali Yogpeeth is to promote benefits of Yoga and Ayurveda worldwide. Acharaya Balkrishna is the current Chairman of this institute.

The institute is involved in serveral other activities and services such as Ayurvedic treatment of patients in Patanjali hospital. It has many laboratories and research centres for Ayurveda.

The institute also provides free services like yoga classes and distributing medicines to the economically weaker people. They also organize camps in different cities and villages.

Patanjali Yogpeeth phase – 1 and Patanjali Yogpeeth phase – 2 are two campuses:

Patanjali Yogpeeth – I was inaugurated on 6 April 2006. There is a dedicated area for the research of yoga and ayurveda inside the Campus library . They are digitalizing many ancient books on Yoga and Ayurveda.

Patanjali Yogpeeth phase – 2 was inaugurated in April 2009. There are Patanjali University , food court and Herbal park in phase – 2.

How to Reach Patanjali Yogpeeth:

The institute is located at a distance of 18 kms from the Haridwar Railway Station. It will take approximately 20 to 25 minutes to get there. Cabs and public transports are easily available from Haridwar and Roorkee Railway Station.
