Agastyamuni in Rudraprayag | How to reach Augustmuni Temple

Agastyamuni or Augustmuni is a town situated on the river bank of Mandakini at the height of 1000 m. It is 18 km from district Rudraprayag. Agastyamuni is famous for the temple of Maharshi Priya Ranjan. The town’s name Agastyamuni comes from the name of a Hindu religious guru Agastya. The town of Agastyamuni also serves as a base for Pawan Hans helicopter services. These services are available to Kedarnath Temple.

There is a big open ground where a helicopter and chopper facility is available for the famous Hindu religious temple Kedarnath. There are many facilities available at Agastymuni for tourists and pilgrims. It is believed that the sage Agastya had meditated here for almost one year.

About The Agastyamuni (Augustmuni) Temple:

This temple is locally known as Agasteshwar Mahadev. Inside the temple, the images of Hindu deities have been carved out on the stones on the walls. The town is also known for the fairs that local people organize here. Agastyamuni plays a host for a huge fair which takes place during the festival of Baisakhi. During this fair, devotees worship and pay their obeisance to the deity. They also throng here to celebrate the festival of Baisakhi.

Some tourists visiting here also get engage in fishing on the banks of river Mandakini. Every twelve years Lakshya Yagya is performed within the temple premises for nine days. More than One Lakh Aahuti (oblations) are offered. After the Yagya is over, Yagya Kund is closed and after 12 years the holy Yagya Kund is re-opened.
