Tibetan Market, also nicknamed as “Bhotia Market”,  is one of the famous street markets in Dehradun. It is famous for its woolens, handicraft items, antiques, accessories and latest summer fashion. Each shop is systematically numbered and labelled at the market. Many youngsters, college-goers and fashion bugs come here to grab their hands on the latest fashion.

In Dehradun, this market is open at two locations, one near Parade Ground and the other near Rispana Pul. Among these, the market near Parade Ground is more popular. During weekends, many visitors come here to by cool stuff.

History

The Tibetan Market in Dehradun was established in the year 1989. Initially, it consisted of around 150 shops with 15 entrance points scattered across its perimeter. The Buddhist temple in the midst of this market was built from the funds collected by the association which manages the market. The temple is believed to be a symbol of luck and prosperity.

Since the introduction of this Market in Dehradun, many Tibetans belonging to Dekyiling, Clement Town and Rajpur road settlement have been living their lives on the sales generated by the market.

The Tibetan Market at Lansdowne Chowk is located near Parade Ground. Catch the local bus that runs towards Parade Ground and from there a short 5 minutes-walk will make you reach the market. Buses from D.L. road, Rispana Pul and Nalapani run towards market from 7 am to 9 pm. Alternatively, you can also catch the Vikram no. 1, 2, 3 and 5 that run to and from the market. Dehradun railway station at 2 km is the nearest railhead to this market. Jolly Grant airport at 28 km is the nearest air connectivity to the market.
