Shikhar Fall “A Ravishing Waterfall in Doon”
Shikhar Fall as the name suggests is a charming waterfall tucked away in the secluded area of Doon. This colossal waterfall is a popular tourist destination and is mostly thronged by adventure lovers. The area around Shikhar Fall is enveloped by thick woodlands and mountainous terrains.
One can savour a beautiful view of the sun-kissed Himalayas. A short 1 km hike on the jagged terrains, crossing the shallow pool will guide you to the waterfall located uphill. Once a secluded area, Shikhar Fall has now emerged as a popular picnic spot. Reaching this Fall requires trekking so it is advised to wear sturdy shoes and comfy clothes. Since the area is tucked in the wilderness, it is advised to return home before sundown.

Shikhar Fall located about 2.5 km from the road is one of the most pleasing destinations to visit in Doon. This tumbling waterfall feeds the city, through a connecting water line. Once the mountains near Shikhar Fall saw heavy mining but it was banned by Indira Gandhi in the 80s. The waterfall was massive in its younger years but has now been reduced to its current size.
The best time to visit Shikhar Fall:
Although Shikhar Falls can be visited all around the year. However, the ideal time would be from October to June last. It is advised not to visit this place during monsoon as it rains heavily here. The water level raises during monsoonal months thus, making the area mushy which isn’t safe for trekking.
How to reach:
Shikar Fall is beautifully concealed in the Kairwaan village in Rajpur. The travellers need to commence a short 1 km trek to reach the waterfall. It is located about 13 km from the city centre, Clock Tower and can be easily accessed from anywhere. The waterfall can be reached by following the Rajpur road route.
Local transport is not available up to Shikhar Fall and one can only reach here by their own vehicle or by booking a cab. The fall is located at a distance of 20 km from ISBT. Dehradun railway station is the nearest railhead to here and Jolly Grant airport closest air connectivity to here.
